This is an advanced course which concludes the Research Master Cluster in the Research Master Variant of MID and MME.
The course aims at composing a manuscript for an academic journal, based on your major thesis. The intention of the course is to write a manuscript for a specific target journal. Every journal has various requirements for submission and every discipline also has its own publication culture; these will be elaborated.
The core part of this course is to write the manuscript in various parts. The way in which you write this should fit in with the style of the journal you choose.
In the course we also will simulate a peer review process; you will revise your manuscript, and write a letter to the editor stating your reactions to the comments of the reviewers.
During the course you will be advised to get feedback from your thesis supervisor, in addition to the feedback received during the course.

Learning outcomes:

Students can successfully prepare a manuscript, based on their thesis for submission to an academic journal and participate fully and effectively in the process to publication.

Activities:

- select a target journal;
- write a manuscript;
- do a peer review of two manuscripts of colleague students;
- give an oral report of the review during a simulated editorial committee meeting;
- write a letter to the editor explaining the reactions to the comments and the revisions in the manuscript.

Examination:

Manuscript (80%), letter to the editor (5%), reflection report (10%), reviews (5%).
