Contents:
- birth of sociology and early sociological styles and thought;
- discussion of the main sociological concepts, theories and research methods;
- focus on ? rural sociology, development sociology and sociology of consumers and households;
- explication of the relation between the general sociology and these specialisations Topics: agriculture, rural development, consumption, households, natural recourses, urban-rural;
- attention to the international dimension and the local as well as the regional level;
- application of sociological knowledge: analyses and interventions;
- illustration by cases.
Aims:
- acquaintance with sociology as a science and the acquiring of background in general sociological theories and concepts;
- acquiring knowledge of the main insights and methods with regard to trends in agriculture, rural development, food systems, consumers and households;
- insights into the social relevance of sociological knowledge and to learn how to apply this knowledge to concrete social problems?
Activities:
- attending lectures;
- participation in working groups;
- literature study;
- participation in class discussion;
- writing and presenting a paper;
- analysing relevant sociological films.
