Management, Economics and Consumer Studies (BBC) / BSc

Aims

The focus of the BSc Management, Economics and Consumer studies Programme is on the managerial, economic, environmental, and sociological aspects in the production and consumption of food within households and businesses in a sustainable and dynamic environment.
Important elements that contribute to the quality of life are food security, safety and quality, and the sustainable use of the environment. To maintain a harmonious balance between the demands of markets, society and sustainability, it is important to ensure access to healthy and safe food in consumer-oriented chains, and to maintain sustainable production systems in a viable environment. This requires knowledge about the functioning, organisation, and interactions between the production and consumption sub-systems in the dynamic food chain. These sub-systems are influenced by political, economic, technological, socio-cultural, and environmental factors. In order to understand and address these complex issues, the changes in the dynamic food chain need to be analysed and interpreted in an interdisciplinary environment.
