Mathematics at the VWO level Wiskunde A1,2 or B1
Contents:
Orientation on the use of mathematics in the life- and environmental sciences.
1. growth phenomena; introduction in integral calculus; elementary first order differential equations; numerical methods; functions of two variables;
2. vectors; matrices and determinants.
Aims:
Getting familiar with mathematical models. Skills in the use of mathematical techniques and the use of the pc for the solution of problems.
Activities:
It is expected that the student attends the instruction hours guided by the lecturer. At the weekly computer practical the student acquires skills in the use of the pc. Weekly the lecturer has office hours; these can be found at the site of the course at EDUweb. Students may also go to the office hours of lecturers of parallel courses.
Examination:
Written examination on problems with open questions and/or a short answer. The practical (presence obligatory) has to be completed with the grading "sufficient".

Study information at EDUweb, including composition of groups with time schedule. Textbooks: Wiskunde en Werking part 1 (Epsilon uitgaven nr.48), druk 2003 of recenter) en part 3 (Epsilon uitgaven nr.49), WUR Shop. The practical guide will be handed out at the first meeting.
