This practical course is an in-depth planning methodology course, focusing at methods and techniques to support operational planning problems at local scale level. The course familiarizes the students with methods and techniques for spatial analysis and applied statistics for spatial planning. Students gain knowledge and skills with applying methods and techniques for qualitative and quantitative analyses of land use and landscape, including bio-physical and environmental aspects as well as socio-economical aspects.
The spatial analysis part of the course includes the basics and concepts for spatial analysis and spatial coherence, multi-criteria techniques, and several case studies for agriculture, nature, recreation and tourism, traffic analysis, spatial-environmental conflicts, and demography. The applied statistics part includes statistical correlation and tests, linear and non-linear regression, and cluster analysis. These techniques are also applied to actual spatial analysis problems in the spatial analysis part of the course.
