Contents:

This module develops the exploratory study made during Bachelor Completion 1. Under the final authority of the Chairs of Landscape Architecture and Spatial Planning the individual competence of each student is assessed. If the elective courses provide sufficient scope for this, an individual may request the examiner for a lecturer from another Chair Group to participate in supervision and examination.
The subject effectively involves research-based learning that focuses on a defined problem. In it, students are expected to demonstrate not only BSc-level competence with regard to their academic knowledge and skills, but also that they can independently conduct the necessary preliminary study and bring it to a satisfactory conclusion.
Before each research begins, its scope and scale will be determined in consultation with the lecturer concerned.

Aims:

Upon successful completion of this research, students should independently be able to:
- interpret an assignment, formulate its objective and problem, and clearly delineate its scope;
- use academic or disciplinary theory to draw up a theoretical framework sufficient to addressing the problem in question;
- draw up a research plan, formulate research questions, and define verifiable provisional and final results;
- describe and conduct an appropriate research method;
- collect, select and process the relevant results;
- formulate his or her own disciplinary approach;
- elucidate, justify and assess, verbally and in writing, the course of research and the manner in which the results were achieved;
- reflect upon the societal and academic relevance of the assignment, research and results.

Activities:

- independently setting up and conduction research-based learning;
- presenting research orally, in writing and with the use of visual material; and defending these activities in a debate;
- presenting a lecture during the colloquium of a fellow student.

Examination:

Assessment is based on the teaching objectives specified above under 'aims'. In it, the following results play an important role: - the results of the individual assignment;
- the closing colloquium with a review by a follow student;
- the review presented during the colloquium of a fellow student.

Literature:

To be determined on an annual basis.
