Contents:

As well as consisting of literature study and excursions, this module will comprise a design studio focusing on a complex design assignment in an urban context. The theme of this studio will be derived from a current problem, either in urban extension (such as those taking place under VINEX, i.e. the Fourth Report on Spatial Planning Extra), in urban reconstruction (for example in post-war neighbourhoods) or in urban transformation.

Aims:

- to develop students' enjoyment of developing landscape architectural design in urban situations;
- to develop students' knowledge of elements in the public urban domain, such as streets, avenues, squares, and quays;
- to develop students' knowledge of the various types of urban building, from detached houses to blocks;
- to develop students' understanding of the positioning of the assignment in urban processes at a higher level and scale.

Activities:

- a design studio;
- excursions;
- literature study.

Examination:

- assessment of the work submitted during the design studio.

Literature:

To be determined on an annual basis.
