Contents:

This module consists of the following components:
- a series of lectures exploring the taxonomy of designs and highlighting the different phases in the design process;
- a design studio based on an exemplary assignment that takes students through the overall design process, i.e. formulating the assignment in overall terms, formulating the assignment in terms of landscape design, conducting all analyses relevant to the design, developing useful design strategies, and making the actual design.

Aims:

- to formulate the landscape-design assignment;
- to conduct problem-based analysis;
- to draw up a draft landscape design;
- to materialise the draft at various scales and levels.

Activities:

- a lecture series;
- design Studio;
- excursions;
- freehand drawing.

Examination:

- lectures: written examination with open-ended questions;
- studio: the results of the assignment.
