Continuation courses:

This course serves, in combination with at least two other approved courses, as a partial fulfillment of a Minor in Education.

Contents:

This course focuses on the hands-on development of both didactic skills and communication skills in order to engage (multiple) audiences. In other words, skills that are necessary for preparing and conducting presentations, colloquia, lessons and workshops. Not only frontal presentations are practised, but also interactive presentations and short workshops. Introductory exercises prepare the students for so-called micro-teaching: three short lessons students prepare for their fellow students. After each presentation and/or teaching experience, feedback is provided by both the instructors and the student's peers.

Aims:

- the student has received knowledge about various didactical and communication skills, more specific in relation to teaching;
- the student has gained experience in several forms of knowledge transfer ( presenting, interacting and delegating) by means of at least four practical exercises;
- the student is able to adequately use audio-visual aids;
- the student is able to give feedback to his fellow students about their performance in front of the group;
- the student is able to reflect on his own performance in communicating and teaching.

Activities:

Analysing the personal relevant experiences in teaching, presenting and learning, and formulating personal learning goals based on these experiences.
Executing tasks, such as giving at least three micro-lessons, the observation of the micro-teaching of fellow students and providing constructive feedback based on that observation. Recording the learning experiences in a logbook throughout the course. Writing of a final reflection report.

Examination:

The grade will be based on the quality of the reflection report and active participation in the meetings.

Literature:

A reader/manual will be provided during the first session.
