Contents:
This introductory course considers the discipline of economics and provides a basic understanding of how economies function. This requires a blend of micro- and macroeconomic theory, institutional material , and real-world applications. In particular, some applications are studied in the Wageningen field of environmental economics, agricultural economics, development economics, regional economics, and household economics.
Aims:
Students become familiar with the basic concepts of the economics discipline and also how economies function in reality. In addition, they are acquainted with certain economic research themes of Wageningen University.
Activities:
Hearing lectures (once per week) on the course materials. Practicals (twice per week) in which students make exercises on the course materials.
Examination:
Written exam.
Literature:
Case, Fair, Gärtner, and Heather: Economics (Prentice Hall Europe, 1999) and a reader supplementing the lectures.
