Expected knowledge on:

Proces Engineering EA

Contents:

- analytical modelling, balance equations, coupled first order systems, flow equations, analogy between heat, mass and momentum transport, dimension analyses;
- numerical modelling, Euler forward, Euler backward, Trapezium rule;
- non steady state diffusion, inhomogeneous boundary conditions, dynamic boundary conditions, source terms;
- numerical modelling of partial differential equation, Cranck Nicolson;
- fluid dynamics, Navier Stokes equation, turbulence;
- some applications in biosystems engineering: flow in ventilation ducts, flow visualisation, heat loss in complex building construction;
- applications in other sciences will follow.

Aims:

- simple and more complex application of theory;
- learning to abstract by using analogies and developing models;
- learning to perform experiments; learning to observe;
- learning to analyse measurements;
- feed-back with reality; evaluation of results;
- coupling research aim to conclusions.

Activities:

- lectures and tutorials;
- practical work including preparation, performing, analysing and reporting;
- working out two cases in own specialism.

Examination:

- practical work including reports: 50%;
- case reports: 50%.
