Assumed knowledge on:

The course requires basic knowledge on sustainability, environmental technology, supply chain management, and innovation management. Students are expected to have active knowledge at the level of courses such as ENP 20806 Environmental Management and Industry.

Contents:

In this course we use a Cradle to Cradle (C2C) perspective to develop a critical and interdisciplinary evaluation of sustainable solutions to design products, services and systems. In so doing we move from a product design to a system thinking approach, discussing how to transition into a circular economy. The course introduces students to:
- principles of C2C design;
- C2C design as a certification mechanism;
- C2C design as an innovation mechanism;
- strategic and organizational elements (business models) for the implementation of C2C at project, organisation and system level;
- principles of Circular Economy;
- elements for facilitating transition into Circular Economy.

Learning outcomes:

After successful completion of this course students are expected to be able to:
- explain C2C guiding principles and apply them to design of products, services and systems;
- identify and critically analyse relevant issues for implementation of C2C design in companies;
- combine environmental and managerial approaches in order to develop a circular economy vision and strategy.

- report of group assignments (80 %);
- presentation of group assignments (20 %);
Each component needs a minimum mark of 5.5 to pass.
