Introductory courses on basic principles in toxicology, organ-specific toxic effects and riks assessment.

Learning outcomes:

After successful completion of this course students are expected to:
- know the major toxicological adverse effects of chemicals on the human body;
- know the major type of adverse effects of chemicals on important target organs;
- know important mechanisms and modes of action of toxic chemicals underlying the adverse effects observed;
- know the developments in the field of alternative integrated testing strategies that can replace animal testing in providing the data required by regulatory bodies for the safety assessment of chemicals;
- know the latest developments in the field of toxicology and risk assessment;
- know important toxic chemicals in food and the environment and their adverse health effects;
- understand the basic principles of risk assessment of chemicals in food and the environment;
- be able to apply the basic principles of risk assessment of chemicals in food and the environment.

Activities:

Lectures based on syllabus and Power-point presentations.

Examination:

Exam with closed questions.
