Contents:
This course will provide basic insight into the recent developments within the philosophy of science and the philosophy of technology. Three main views on science (Inductivism, Popper, and paradigm theory) and five views on technology (ranging from technology as applied science to the actor network theory) will be discussed, up to a point where the relation between science-technology and society becomes unavoidable as a topic for further study.
Learning outcomes:
After successful completion of this course students are expected to be able to:
- distinguish main ideas about science and technology;
- show (in writing) a first understanding of the relation between science and society.
Activities:
Lectures combined with discussion and video presentations.
Examination:
Students write an individual paper. Bottom mark: 6.
Literature:
Literature will be handed out at beginning of the course.
