In this course we make a design for a spatial operational plan (focussing on execution) on a regional scale. The plan must solve the present spatial problems in the region. In this course the knowledge from previous courses is integrated and applied. The main phases in this course are (1) analysis of patrons and processes; (2) a first proposal for a spatial plan; (3) a further elaboration of arrangement and construction for a part of the area; (4) calculation of impacts and an economic evaluation of the measures proposed.
The several phases are finished with oral and written presentations, including maps.
Learning outcomes:
After the course the student is expected to be:
- acquainted with skills to analyze a region based on ideas for further developments, and next to find solutions for social, economic and ecological problems through the development of plans and designs on a local and regional scale with different temporal horizons;
- acquainted with skills to analyze the consequences of alternative choices for different stakeholders in society;
- able to design a structure for the regional road network, including solutions to mitigate the impacts of major infrastructural works on, for example, local accessibility, wildlife and flora;
- acquainted with interconnections between several specific preceding courses in the study program (such Construction and Organization in Space and Time; Methods & Techniques for Planning; Transport, Traffic and Infrastructure) and to be able to combine these tools in an integrated operational project on a local/regional scale.
Activities:
Practical assignments (individual as well as in groups of 2 or 4), written, oral and poster presentations, field excursion (participation is obligatory).
Examination:
The personal evaluation is based on a weighted average of the student's individual and group results in the phases (1)..(4).
Literature:
A reader will be available at the start of the course.
