Contents:

The course deals with the economic and political aspects of landscapes. The questions addressed are:
- why are activities located where they are?
- who is owning the landscape?
- how does the land market function and who are the stakeholders?
- why does the government intervene?
- how to value landscape?
- what are the effects of globalization?
- how to finance location development?
- what are the relevant government policies and instruments used?
- pros and cons of public-private co-operation in landscape development.

Learning outcomes:

At the end of this course you are expected to be able to:
- reproduce the economic and political descriptions and theories;
- apply theories in exercises;
- understand the economics and politics of landscapes;
- understand the economic and political aspects of actual case studies.
