Contents:

This excursion will be organised together with the University of Amsterdam (one year WU, next year UvA). The excursion is a continuation of the theoretical and practical courses and deepens the knowledge on (aspects of) the marine system. Research institutes in The Netherlands and abroad will be visited as well as organisations that are resposible for the management of the marine environment. Some relevant sites will be visited.

Aims:

- recognize problems in the management of the marine environment;
- gain insight in the research approaches of different marine research institutes;
- if applicable, gain insight in the trans-boundary problems.

Activities:

- visiting institutes;
- discuss research approaches and outcomes;
- summarize and evaluate the information in a report.

Examination:

Individual performance; assessment of report.

Literature:

A manual and lecture notes will be distributed during the course.
