Assumed knowledge on:
Geology and Landscapes of the Rhine-Meuse Delta (LAD-22306)
Contents:
Our world presents a wide range of different landscapes. This course deals with the underlying processes of these landscapes. Geological processes and parent material form the basis for the landscape formation after which climate, vegetation, land use and time will shape the landscape into its current state. The main geological, geomorphological and pedological processes behind various landscapes will be described, analysed, and illustrated during practicals and excursions in Germany and France. Note: there is an early registration for this course. The course includes an own financial contribution. Check with the contact person.
Learning outcomes:
After successful completion of this course students are expected to be able to:
- describe the geology and landscapes of the world;
- explain and clarify the underlying shaping and controlling geological, geomorphological and pedological processes in landscapes;
- analyze the dynamics (space and time) of these systems under field conditions as well as using simulation modelling;
- interpret and summarize their observations in the field of the genesis of a landscape.
Activities:
Lectures, practicals, excursions.
Examination:
Work evaluation (workbook) and written exam.
Literature:
Reader and Workbook Excursion Guide.
