Contents:

The purpose of this course is to familiarise students with advanced research methods and techniques commonly used in leisure, recreation and tourism. The course will focus on applied methods (i.e. quantitative and qualitative) relevant to leisure and leisure related fields to prepare students for their thesis work.

Aims:

Upon completion of this course, students will: - review and apply the research process in Leisure, Recreation and tourism experiences, and apply several techniques in the analysis of data;
- learn and apply multivariate quantitative statistical procedures to a case study data including principal component analysis and multiple regression;
- learn and apply qualitative techniques such as content analysis, observation methods, indepth interviewing via a grounded theory approach;
- apply information and knowledge gained through analysis and scientific reporting of case study data reflecting the research process and interpreting results of advanced analysis procedures.

Lectures/discussion, interviewing, data analysis, ICT usage, analytical software tutorials, literature study, group exercises .
