Contents:

This course builds upon introductory courses in environmental policy and environmental and resource economics and prepares for a thesis research in these fields. The course will elaborate on theoretical knowledge, analytical instruments and tools and recent developments in policy and economics, and their application to the field of environmental policy and economic models.
Issues include:
- risks, risk perceptions, expected utility theory, decision making in a risk society;
- international negotiations, game theory, international relations, regime formation;

Aims:

1) advanced knowledge and insight in theoretical developments in policy sciences and environmental economics: international relations theory, game theory, technological development theory, risk society theory, expected utility theory;
2) advanced knowledge on analytical instruments and research tools in environmental policy and economics, as related to these theories (see 1) ;
3) application of theories and methodologies on specific case studies in environmental policy and economics (food, air pollution, water pollution, firm behaviour).

Activities:

1) plenary lectures;
2) working groups;
3) computer modelling and exercises.

Examination:

Case study report;
Oral exam.
