Contents:

The goal of the course is that students learn to develop a research proposal for a practice oriented research project. Starting from a practical problem that needs to be solved, the student first learns to formulate appropriate research questions. After finishing their conceptual design, students start with their technical design: learning to set up the research project according to the following research strategies: the experiment, the survey and the case study. During this part of the course attention is also paid to methods of data gathering, like interviewen, observation and content analysis. By the end of the course the students will be able to hand in a complete research proposal. Furthermore, students can participate in a SPSS-computer-practical or intervieuw training.

Aims:

After finishing this course students are able to develop a research proposal.

Activities:

- workshops in which both lecturing and interactive learning take place in small groups; - SPSS-computer practicum; - interview-training.

Examination:

The course will be examined by both a written exam and the developed research proposal. The final mark for this course will be based on the written examination score (50%) and the score for the research proposal (50%). Both the written exam and the research proposal will have to be valued at least a 5.5.
