Continuation courses:
Thesis Crop & Weed Ecology
Contents:
Modern concepts and methods for research in crop and weed ecology are presented with regard for the role and history of agricultural production in society. Emphasis is given to ongoing research at the group Crop & Weed Ecology. Topics are yearly updated. They may inlude management of nutrients and water in crop production, (functional) biodiversity, crop health, ecology and management of weeds, pests and diseases, multifunctional land use, and agricultural production chains. Students are trained in conduction experiments, use of modeling for analyzing crop responses, sampling and observation techniques, date evaluation, statistical analysis of experimental data, drawing conclusions from such data, and high-level presentation of research results.
Aims:
- getting acquainted with the latest scientific insights in crop & weed ecology, and pertinent research methods (experimental & modeling);
- develop skills in designing and conduction crop experiments, evaluation and presenting research results;
- being able to explain the relevance of research in crop & weed ecology for innovating agricultural production and resource management;
- being able to apply modern concepts and research methods in crop & weed ecology to questions regarding agricultural production and resource management.
Activities:
- Lectures and discussions;
- Practicals and papers;
- Computer practicals.
Examination:
Papers, performance on different topics and report.
Literature:
Course description and literature will be provided at first contact.
