Thesis Crop Physiology
Contents:
Latest insights into the basic processes at the sub-plant, plant and crop level relating to growth and development of organs, individuals, and canopies, and to the production of dry matter and its components. Bridging the knowledge gap between genotypic traits and phenotypic expression. Plant responses to variation in water and nutrient availability in time and space. Consequences of these new insights for current and future crop management practices.
Aims:
- getting acquainted with latest scientific insights into crop physiology, and its relations with progress in molecular physiology;
- enhancing in-depth knowledge of crop functioning under contrasting conditions (incl. harsh or resource poor environments);
- increasing insight into options to use and apply plant and crop physiological knowledge for crop improvement (yield and quality) and precision crop management.
Activities:
- Lectures and discussions on the physiological functioning of major crops under different agro-ecological conditions;
- PO elements including analyses of crop development, yield formation and quality improvement based on recent literature.
Examination:
- written exam;
- jointly produced analytical report.
