Assumed knowledge on:

CBI-10306, MIB-10306, GEN-10306

Contents:

This course gives insight in the biochemistry and molecular biology of fundamental cellular processes: DNA replication, repair and reorganisation; transcriptional regulation; processing and transport of RNA; protein synthesis and -degradation; protein folding and -transport; regulatory strategies and molecular evolution.

Aims:

Obtaining fundamental knowledge on: the biochemical and molecular-biological aspects of the most important bio-molecules in the cell, nucleic acids and proteins; their functioning and their roles in the functioning of an organism as a whole.

Activities:

Attending lectures and studying chapters in the books below.

Examination:

Written examination.

Literature:

A study guide is provided during the first lecture. The subject material for the examination can be found in two textbooks: - Berg, Tymoczko & Stryer: Biochemistry (5th ed;
- Lodish et al: Molecular Cell Biology (5th ed). Both books are available from Kniphorst. Further information can be found on the Internet pages of Biochemistry;
