Contents:

Advanced course to broaden knowledge on and interpretation of recently published literature in a selected field of animal breeding and genetics through discussions between staff and students. The course consists of two main activities namely: research meetings and journal club. In the journal club, recent publications in recent issues of scientific journals are presented and discussed. The presentation will concentrate on (i) hypothesis, (ii) research finding, (iii) relevance of the research findings. The discussion will involve ethical and social issues related to the subject. Journal clubs take place during all periods and are scheduled for each Thursday afternoon (15:30-17:15) in even weeks.

Aims:

- to obtain knowledge and understanding of recent developments in research related to animal breeding and genetics.
- stimulate discussion between Msc students and staff.

Activities:

- participation in the research meetings and journal club during a period of 6 months;
- presentation of at least two recent publications in journal club.

Examination:

The examination will be based on presentations (70%) and participation in the sessions (30%).

Study guide is available with details on activities and guidelines for presentation and format of meeting. Research proposals and photocopies of research papers and journals articles are made available.
