Knowledge Hurts, or “Kennis doet Pijn” in Dutch, explores the limitations of science to deliver (universal) truths. You will master the competence 'how to make the best interpretation'. Next to this you will discuss the main views on science (Logical Positivism / Popper / Kuhn (paradigms) / Lakatos (research programmes).

Learning outcomes:

After successful completion of this course students are expected to be able to:
- understand basic concepts of the Philosophy of Science;
- reflect critically on the scientific practice;
- distinguish main ideas within Philosophy of Science;
- understand and experience the role of interpretation within daily life, art and science.


- the starting venue of the course is the 'HET DEPOT' (Beeldengalerij). This is a  sculpture-gallery, located in Wageningen;
- in this museum you will 'experience' reality by an artwork and you will start philosophize by looking at an artwork. You have to give answers to the questions asked by the teacher. It is a written assignment and the start of your logbook;
- next to this you will be working in groups, supported by staff;
- you will prepare and give a lecture about one Philosophy of Science theory (supported by staff);
- during the course you keep a Logbook;
- at the end of the course, the teacher will wrap up the course.

Literature will be handed out at beginning of the course.
