This elective is part of the Wageningen MSc-track Entrepreneurship. This specific elective is open for all MSc students of Wageningen University who:
- are eager to scrutinize case studies, and prepare and participate in business case discussions;
- are interested in (corporate) entrepreneurship, i.e. business dynamics of agri-food majors and start-ups;
- who have a good understanding of the basic principles of entrepreneurship and business management.

This course targets students eager in advancing their capabilities in entrepreneurship and business management. Who is really competent in interpreting entrepreneurial settings in dynamic agri-food markets has an advantage at first recruitment, later in decisive business meetings, and in career turning points. One must train repetitively and focused to improve such capability, as in topsport. Become competent at master-level in analyzing entrepreneurship cases, using the perspectives of major corporations and small (start up) firms.

Learning outcomes:

After successful completion of this course students are expected to be able to:
- understand and interpret the basics of entrepreneurship theory in general and in the agri-food sector in particular;
- explore the potential entrepreneurship issues at stake in a particular case;
- analyse the crucial elements of the complex problem at stake;
- extract valuable entrepreneurship lessons from a business case.

Activities:

The learning outcomes can be realized by means of the following activities:
- challenging lectures by WUR researchers and experts, and stimulative applications by guest lectures from insiders;
- individual and group work, to anticipate class debates, and the (obligatory, paid for) field trip;
- execute individual and group assignments, and multiple peer reviews to test competency development;
- explore several series of life business cases and written case studies related to Dutch horticulture, sustainable entrepreneurship, big data, and new proteins;
- explore new proteins both as a technological and commercial opportunity and as a case study on retail majors vs agri-food start ups.

Examination:

No central exam, but assessment of in class participation, a series of class related tasks, assignments and peer reviewing.
