BSc Honours Programme.


This orientation course prepares and selects students for the BSc Honours Programme. It addresses the three pillars of the Honours Programme: broadening, deepening and personal development. After this course students and examiners can decide whether or not you should continue with the 'Honours Programme'. The theme of the course is ‘Globalisation’. It is approached from all Wageningen University disciplines. Associated with this theme students will be trained in argumentation and debating skills. Under the pillar personal development the topic of leadership will be introduced.

Learning outcomes:

After successful completion of this course students are expected to be able to:
- explain the characteristics and consequences of "the Colombian Exchange";
- form an opinion on (aspects of) globalization based on various of sources;
- formulate a statement on globalization on the basis of relevant information;
- use argumentation skills in debating;
- reflect on your own learning process and ambition.


- keynotes on the impact of Colombian Exchange;
- read, discuss and analyse the book 1493 by Charles Mann;
- analyse literature or other information sources on the effects of globalization;
- group discussions;
- select and critically watch relevant Tedmovies on globalization;
- define a statement on globalization on the basis of the relevant information;
- Masterclass on argumentation;
- Masterclass on leadership;
- argumentation & debating;
- reflection journals.


Presence during all scheduled course activities is compulsory.
Passing of the course is determined by the quality of your:
- active participation in Masterclasses, group discussions and debates;
- reflection journals (individual assignment).
The 3 ects are part of the BSc Honours Programme only. No credits will be awarded to those students who do not pursue in the BSc Honours Programme.
