Assumed knowledge on:

RSO-10306 Sociology and RSO-12806 Sociology and Anthropology of Health.

Contents:

This course considers how societies impact people's health and their bodies against the background of three sociological themes (social enequality, social cohesion and ratrionalisation). By discussing classical and recent studies, the aim is to develop a critical understanding of the interrelationships between health, society and health care.

Learning outcomes:

At the end of the course unit, the student is expected to be able to:
- know classical and recent sociological studies on health, health care and the body;
- be able to apply this knowledge;
- have a analytical-sociological attitude towards the relationship between health, society and health care.

Activities:

- lectures;
- literature study;
- discussion groups;
- group assignment.

Examination:

- handing in two questions per meeting/reading (10%);
- group assignment (25%);
- written exam with open questions (65%).
To pass the course the written exam and the assignment must at least have a mark of 5.50.
