BSc Landscape Architecture.

Contents:

Focusing on recent issues in landscape architecture in its widest sense this lecture series also seeks links with allied fields. The issues examined annually are topical in nature dealing with themes such as landscape urbanism, water management, infrastructure or metropolitan urbanization. They may also involve philosophical, ethical or sociological themes. According to the respective themes prominent speakers are invited to share their view on the topic.

Learning outcomes:

After successful completion of this course students are expected to be able to:
- review recent developments in Dutch and international landscape architectural practice, including design research;
- evaluate how philosophical (aesthetic and ethical) orientations lead to different kinds of design practices and innovations in the field;
- deal with diversity in problem perception and conditions, values, and social and economic conditions in the design practice;
- compose a paper in which these practices are critically examined and interpreted.

Activities:

- attendance of all scheduled lectures and participation in the discussions that follow them;
- submission of a report on the lectures on the basis of guidelines provided before the start of the series;
- reading literature on the subject of the lectures;
- writing a paper on a subject covered in the same lectures.

Examination:

- attendance at lectures and participation in the subsequent class and study group discussions (20%);
- class presentation of case study and case study report (team work, 20 pages, 40%;
- reflection report on learning through the course (Individual work less than ten pages, 40%).
