BSc Landscape Architecture.

Contents:

This series of lectures focuses on design theories and relates mainly to landscape architecture, but also to architecture and urban and metropolitan design. By taking an interdisciplinary and cross- cultural approach, it will enable the students to work effectively with allied disciplines within different cultural contexts.

Learning outcomes:

After successful completion of this course students are expected to be able to:
- articulate the meaning and roles of design theories in landscape architecture practice and research;
- distinguish fundamental types of substantive and procedural theories;
- assess various theoretical contributions from other disciplines explaining the people and landscape interaction, and their implications for design;
- evaluate the changes from the Modern to Postmodern cultural and spatial conditions as they are expressed in contemporary landscape architecture practices;
- justify a discriminate choice for theoretical positions to guide his or her design process;
- prepare a presentation and compose a paper in which the justification of a personal choice for a theoretical position on his or her design process is formulated.

- lecture series;
- literature study.

Examination:

The evaluation is based on:
- presentation and review of the texts (30%);
- presentation of the essay including research on the contemporary landscape architectural issues (60%);
- as well as class attendance and active participation in discussion (10%).
