Assumed knowledge on:

HNE-20306 Nutrition Behaviour. Students from BSc or MSc programmes other than Nutrition and Health are advised to enroll in a computer-based self-study tutorial of about 40 hours, developed by the CDI (see: http://www.cdi.wur.nl/services/courses/overviewcourses2012)

Continuation courses:

Thesis Human Nutrition, Public Health Nutrition.

Contents:

This course is integrated with the 3 weeks training course Monitoring, evaluation and impact assessment of food and nutrition security programmes of the Centre for Development Innovation (WUR). The module is fulltime, and focuses on the necessary elements in designing an effective food and nutrition information system for monitoring and evaluation of the impacts of food and nutrition security policies and programmes. For specific information concerning the above module, you are referred to the website of the CDI (http://www.wageningenur.nl/en/Expertise-Services/Research-Institutes/centre-for-development-innovation/short-courses.htm). As this course is offered together with CDI (http://www.cdi.wur.nl/services/courses/overviewcourses2012), students can experience a higher workload and may have classes during evening time or on some holidays. The latter will be announced in advance.

Learning outcomes:

After successful completion of this course, the student:
- is convinced of and able to explain the role of food and nutrition security with the Millenium Development Goals (MDG's) and the importance of investing in nutrition;
- is motivated to integrate M&E systematically in ongoing nutrition work and to have insight into the principles of participatory and learning-oriented planning, monitoring and evaluation in food and nutrition security;
-have strengthened the competence to design an M&E system including assessments for food and nutrition security programmes and/or projects;
- is acquitted with frequently used food and nutrition information packages and approaches.

Activities:

Each module is scheduled at CDI full-time (morning and afternoon), contact the coordinator for detailed scheduling information.
The training approach is interactive and experience-based: it provides the students with the possibility to learn from expert facilitators as well as from each other.
Especially the combination with the foreign participants from the WI course will offer the students an excellent opportunity to exchange ideas. Transfer in knowledge goes hand in hand with case studies, working groups, etc.

Examination:

- group case study report (80%);
- group presentation (±0.5 credit group report);
- individual reflection report (20%);
- obligatory presence during all session.

Literature:

A study guide and literature will be handed out at the beginning of the course at CDI.
