Contents:

The course provides an overview of the relationships between human beings and their man-made and natural environments. The course takes a global perspective, addressing subjects such as cultural globalization, population dynamics, nature and society, economic development and urbanization. In addition, students will further their understanding via the study of different perspectives in human geographic theory.

Learning outcomes:

After successful completion of this course students are expected to be able to:
- explain how different people interpret the environment;
- explain how people produce the environment;
- describe how the environment is enabling and constraining human behaviour;
- define the main geographical concepts associated with the interaction between people and space;
- apply geographical theories and concepts to the analysis of spatial settings;
- analyse spatial conflicts between social actors.

- written exam (50%);
