Statistics/Econometrics/Optimisation Methods; BEC-20806 Financial Management in Agriculture and BEC-22806 Accounting or BEC-51806 Agricultural Business Economics.

Contents:

Farm planning and evaluation are key concepts in agricultural business economics. This course focuses on quantitative methods that are used in planning and evaluation such as mathematical programming, statistical analysis and technical performance measurement. Also, due attention is paid to economic concepts and problems with agricultural business economic data. The course prepares for doing a major or minor thesis in Business Economics.

Learning outcomes:

After the course, students are able to:
- detect data problems in farm data sources and provide solutions for such problems;
- apply mathematical programming techniques, regression analysis, and data envelopment analysis;
- select the appropriate method(s) for analysing different agricultural business economic problems;
- provide a critical assessment of the use of mathematical programming, regression analysis, and data envelopment analysis in scientific literature.

Activities:

Students attend lectures and make exercises in groups during computer practical's. Furthermore, groups of students make an assignment in which they choose and apply the techniques presented.

Examination:

- group reports of the practical's (20%);
- assignments (10%);
- written exam (70%) with open questions.
Each component needs a minimum mark of 5.0 to pass.

Reader Advanced Agricultural Business Economics (will be distributed in first lecture).
