Biotechnology (MBT) / MSc

Introduction

Biotechnology is defined as the industrial exploitation of living organisms or the exploitation of components derived from these organisms. The MSc programme Biotechnology focuses on application oriented integration of biological disciplines and engineering. Students have to specialize in one field of biotechnology (Cellular / Molecular Biotechnology, Food biotechnology, Medical Biotechnology, Process technology, Marine biotechnology or Environmental Biotechnology) and apply their knowledge and skills in an integrated approach including other fields and disciplines.

Learning Outcomes

After successful completion of this MSc programme graduates are expected to:
- be able to select, understand, apply and integrate the necessary skills in the basic and applied disciplines of biotechnology and to be able to enlarge knowledge en skills in their own specialization;
- be able to develop and design an exploitable biotechnological process using an integrated approach;
- have theoretic knowledge in basic disciplines of biotechnology;
- knowledge and skills in techniques and methods of biotechnological disciplines to solve technical bottlenecks;
- have specialized knowledge and skills in one field of biotechnology;
- have skills to determine and solve complex problems in teams in an integrated approach;
- have ability to function independently in a multi- and interdisciplinary research and development environment.
