Contents:

This course is the linking link between all course elements and the thesis in the MLE programme. It pays attention to the epistemological and ontological issues of science and their consequences for the practice of social science research. During the course students acquire additional (study and research) skills with respect to the writing of their own research project (thesis). The students run through the successive stages of proposal writing: research problem statement development, the role of theory and the development of an appropriate conceptual framework, the design of an adequate set of research techniques, as well as budgeting and scheduling of all the research activities.

Learning outcomes:

- students understand and can use relevant skills such as developing and writing of a social science research proposal and the implementation of empirical research, as well as to the processing of research data, the writing of the thesis and the presentation and diffusion of results;
- students are able to critically understand leisure, tourism and environment as well as of the various conceptions regarding scientific rationality in modern sciences and its consequences for the practice of social science research;
- students can reflect on and give feedback on research proposals and results;
- students are able to critically reflect upon one's own knowledge generation and learning processes.

Activities:

Interactive lecturing, group work, literature study, writing and public presentation of own (partial) research proposals, essay writing.
