Contents:

This course provides a broad-based overview of the scope of the leisure industry from a global perspective including an overview of such topics as the production, regulation and organization of leisure, tourism and recreation, presently and in the past. Leisure and the associated sub-disciplines will be analyzed as well as leisure behavior and the associated impacts on the environment. In addition, the institutional context of leisure and tourism will be addressed.

Learning outcomes:

After this course the students will be able to:
- define the concepts of leisure, tourism, travel, recreation and environment;
- identify the determinants of leisure and tourism demand;
- describe leisure and tourism supply (i.e. facilities, attractions, environments);
- discuss the authenticity and identity of leisure and tourism supply;
- determine the economic value of leisure and tourism supply;
- identify and discuss the main cultural, ecological and economic impacts of leisure and tourism;
- recall and discuss the most important leisure and tourism management issues.
