Contents:

During this course an introduction will be given in horticulture, agronomy, crop protection, plant breeding and plant taxonomy, including aspects of organic farming. The interdependency of these disciplines will be demonstrated. Various study skills will be acquired such as searching for literature and scientific information and problem-based learning cases. During excursions the broadness of the study and work field of Plant Sciences will be demonstrated. The relation between plant sciences and society will be studied in different situations.

Learning outcomes:

After the course the students are able to:
- to synthesize knowledge of different plant sciences disciplines at a BSc-1 level;
- to understand the role and benefit of plant sciences for food production;
- to apply skills that are, among others, necessary in problem-based learning;
- to value traditional and new agricultural production methods and their impact on society.
