The BSc thesis is the completion of the BLP program. The thesis effectively involves research-based learning on the basis of a societal problem. The chosen problem, to be freely chosen or offered by the staff, should meet with the required complexity for BSc-level and enable students to demonstrate not only BSc-level competences with regard to their academic knowledge and skills, but also that they can independently conduct the necessary preliminary study and bring it to a satisfactory conclusion. If students successfully pass the BSc Thesis they have proven to be ready for the MSc Program.
Students are expected to make a design on different scale levels. The course program of the BSc thesis Landscape Architecture will be closely geared to the program of the BSc thesis Spatial Planning. Disciplinary and interdisciplinary interaction and collaboration can be part of the study, but the students will be assessed on their individual competences.

Learning outcomes:

Upon successful completion of the bachelor thesis the students should independently be able to:
- define a concrete problem statement for landscape design, based on the interpretation and delineation of a complex societal problem;
- formulate clear objectives and research/design questions, use academic and/or disciplinary theory to draw up a conceptual framework sufficient to addressing the problem in question, and formulate appropriate research and design methods;
- carry out a research-based design process with assessable results, based on the knowledge and skills which are acquired in the Bachelors;
- create a both sensuous and intellectual design on different correlated scale levels;
- deliver their products - oral presentations, report and posters - clearly, convincingly and by argument;
- reflect upon the societal and academic relevance of the landscape design problem, the research and the results, using references to theories, methods and best practices.

Activities:

The course consists of three parts:
- formulate a project plan, including personal port folio and learning objectives;
- conduct a research and produce a research-based design on different scale levels;
- reflect on the research and design process, the results, the own disciplinary approach and the personal learning objectives.

Examination:

All products contribute to the final grade and must be evaluated 5.5 or more:
- project plan;
- research report and posters;
- self reflection report.
