Continuation courses:

LAR-26309 Design Studio 3: Urban Design

Contents:

The course offers drawing language and techniques, applied in the related design studio 3: - advanced free-hand design drawing in bird's eye and eye-level perspective projection. Exercises of sketching and documentation in a specific landscape (e.g. South Limburg), reducing it by analysis into typological drawings, and real world visualizations, using various orthographic and spatial projections.;
- tutorial courses in software for 3D vector drawing, and for different finishing techniques and manipulations of photographic and drawn material for spatial design visualization (e.g. SketchUp, Photoshop);
- advanced insights in layout and colour-applications for adequate posterpresentation in the related design studio, exemplified by best practices.

Learning outcomes:

After this course students will have the knowledge, tools and skills to:
- demonstrate advanced skills of freehand sketching for field observation and design in different levels of scale;
- reduce a landscape by analysis into typological drawings, using various orthographic and spatial projections (Field trip);
- survey and measure a built site and translate this into a proper set of orthographic documentation drawings (Field trip);
- apply SketchUp software for 3D vector drawing and Photoshop (2) for different finishing techniques and photographic manipulations.

Activities:

- lectures, literature study;
- drawing lessons; instructed and assisted software tutorial exercises;
- advanced exercises in layout and color;
- fieldtrip Landscape Visualization.

Examination:

- sketch book results;
- results of various computer assignments.
