HSO-30306 Health Policy and Action

Contents:

This course addresses the macro-level determinants of health related issues, i.e. impact of the physical and social environment of health and health perception. The course will illustrate how health is related to a diversity of interrelated physical and social determinants like globalisation, housing, neighbourhood, social networks, migration, work, education, nature and recreation.

Learning outcomes:

At the end of the course unit the student is expected to be able to:
- understand and distinguish the diversity of physical and social determinants at the global, the national, the regional and local level;
- analyse the interactions between lifestyle determinants and physical and social determinants;
- analyse problems related to the physical and social environment and formulate relevant solutions;
- analyse and judge policy to improve the physical and social environment for health.

Activities:

Lectures, working groups, presentations and class discussions, excursions, portfolio.

Examination:

Written examination plus evaluation of assignments.

Literature:

A reader with the obligatory literature will be available.
