Contents:

This course provides an advanced and integrated approach of metabolic and physiological aspects of physical activity and athletic performance in the perspective of nutrition and health. The course consists of three parts: Exercise Physiology (week 1-3), Exercise and Health (week4), Nutrition and Sports (week 5-6)

Learning outcomes:

After the course the student is expected to be able to:
- describe and explain the metabolic pathways of energy expenditure during physical activity;
- describe and explain the physiological changes during physical activity;
- demonstrate understanding of the role of physical activity in the prevention and treatment of chronic diseases like obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus;
- demonstrate understanding of the proper nutritional requirements for athletes.

Activities:

The course consists of staff and invited lecturers, excursions, tutorials, and project education as well as practicals related to exercise physiology.

Examination:

- individual written examination and evaluation practicals and project assignment.
