Assumed knowledge on:
Basic Knowledge of Human Biology, Human Physiology and Biochemistry.
Contents:
- basic knowledge of the aetiology, pathology, pathophysiology, diagnosis and therapy of major chronic diseases (i.e., respiratory diseases, gastrointestinal diseases, cardiovascular diseases, neurological and locomotor diseases, urogenital diseases, and oncology);
- getting acquainted with medical terminology, and the way of reasoning and working practices in the medical field;
- collection of information from various sources to solve medical problems.
Learning outcomes:
After participation the student is able to:
- describe aetiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis and therapy of public health relevant diseases;
- explain how the medical doctor arrives at diagnosis and therapy by means of clinical examination;
- communicate effectively with health care personnel about medical subject matter;
- collect relevant medical and other information necessary for understanding medical problems.
Activities:
The student will;
- follow the introductory lectures;
- participate actively in the discussion lectures;
- participate actively in group work on medical problem cases;
- perform self study according to aims defined in the group work.
Examination:
A written exam.

Book: Kumar & Clark. Clinical Medicine, preferably 6th edition, ISBN 0702027634. Additional medical books will be available in the library. A list of appropriate internet sites will be available.
