Contents:

This course provides theoretical knowledge and practical skills in methodological topics and subject matter relevant to nutritional epidemiology. Focus is on:
- assessment of exposure, biomarkers;
- dietary assessment methods;
- validity and reproducibility of exposure.

Learning outcomes:

After participation the student is expected to be able to:
- critically evaluate and improve data collection in nutritional epidemiology and related fields of health research;
- design and develop questionnaires on dietary and lifestyle factors;
- choose biomarkers and write protocols for their assessment;
- understand and have basic experience in analysis of validation and reproducibility studies;
- apply and process all newly developed knowledge from the different parts of this course by integrating it into an overall assignment.

Activities:

To reach these objectives, the student will:
- prepare and follow plenary lectures, read relevant study material;
- process the theory and get practical experience by studying e-learning modules:;
- prepare and follow interactive plenary sessions;
- search and read relevant reviews and research papers, develop a food frequency questionnaire, choose a biomarker of intake and describe a biomarker protocol, and write a protocol on an evaluation study (group work).

Examination:

- written examination (individual);
- protocol evaluation study (group work).
