Contents:

Location is an important feature of economics activities. In this course the two aspects of spatial and regional economics are studied: location theory and regional development. Location theory deals with land economics and the location or firms and consumers. The regional development part is concerned with disparities in regional development in developed as well as developing countries. Special attention is paid to the way regional disparities are measured.

Learning outcomes:

After having attended the course, the students are expected:
- to be acquainted with the spatial aspects of economic theory;
- to know and to use the most important regional economic models.

Activities:

Attending lectures, studying and discussing literature and cases, writing a paper on a regional or spatial subject, apply Shift and Share analysis to regional data, excursion.

Examination:

The evaluation takes place on the basis of a written exam as well as the papers.
