Contents:

The course offers a framework for the analysis of major health problems in both the 'developed' and 'developing' world. Health problems and their solutions (policies, programmes) need to be studied critically because definitions of health and illness are contested and the solutions to health problems involve many stakeholders with their own perspectives and interests.

Learning outcomes:

At the end of the course unit, the student is expected to be able to:
- be familiar with sociological and anthropological concepts for the analysis of health problems and policies;
- be able to analyse public health problems and policies;
- have knowledge of health problems in contemporary societies.
