Location is an important feature of economics activities. In this course the two aspects of spatial and regional economics are studied: location theory and regional development. Location theory deals with land economics and the location or firms and consumers. The regional development part is concerned with disparities in regional development in developed as well as developing countries. Special attention is paid to the way regional disparities are measured.

Learning outcomes:

After successful completion of the course students are expected to be able to:
- describe spatial aspects of economic theory;
- analyse economic location models
- apply simple regional economic models;
- analyse regional disparities;
- apply models of regional interaction.


Attending lectures, studying and discussing literature and cases, writing a paper on a regional or spatial subject, apply Shift and Share analysis to regional data, excursion.


The evaluation takes place on the basis of a written exam as well as the papers.
