Assumed knowledge on:

SUST aims at students that are an active stakeholder in a sustainability transitions projects and bring their case project to the course.
SUST is attended by: 1) students who participate in the same period in Academic Consultancy Training (ACT) projects that have received the label 'Sustainability Transitions-ACT' (S-ACT). Those S-ACT students are encouraged to attend SUST if they wish to strengthen their understanding and capabilities for enabling sustainability transitions as part of their project.
2) students that bring in their own personal real-life sustainability transition case project.

Contents:

SUST aims at equipping students, that have a real-life project (a pre-requisite for the course), to understand and to support sustainability transitions. Through this course students gain insights about sustainability transitions related concepts, processes and competencies. Especially, they learn to apply those insights by supporting real-life sustainability transitions projects. Tools that can help qualifying sustainability are introduced. Sustainability transitions features and initiatives are critically analyzed. Students are requested to creatively engage into thinking about how to support transitions processes, to gain awareness of and to practice appropriate competencies in this endeavour. Following SUST, adjacent to the execution of real life sustainability transitions projects, offers students the possibility to put theory into practice and to contextualize, within their projects, the insights acquired in the classroom. Moreover, SUST enables interactions and dialogue between students engaged in different projects and thus it fosters cross-fertilization of knowledge, next to the development of project-specific knowledge.

Learning outcomes:

After successful completion of this course students are expected to be able to:
- explain sustainability transition notions, theories and processes;
- critically examine sustainability transitions features, challenges and potential of own and other sustainability transition projects in an integrative fashion;
- creatively apply and experiment with concepts and competence dimensions during the course and throughout the execution of own project;
- reflect on (own) competencies for fostering sustainability transitions.

Activities:

Lectures, experiential group work, competence exercises and dialogue.

Examination:

- SUST Group Report 'Concepts and Project' (50%);
- SUST Design of Supportive Intervention (50%).
Each component needs a minimum mark of 5.50 in order to pass the course. Participating to all classes is a prerequisite.
