Contents:

In this course students become acquainted with and practice to lead societal change from the vantage point of the collective. The pressing environmental, social and economic challenges of our time need action. It needs agents that care for society, aspire transformation and are able to lead in unknown territory. In this course we focus on the connection between the student and their personal drives as individual and the society as the collective, and how this connection between individual and collective can be a starting point for leading behavior and change. The students will work with concepts as care, vision and worldviews but also on aspects as agility, resilience and sagacity (wisdom/knowing from experience). Leadership theories are used to investigate relationships and exchange between leaders and followers in the context of societal and sustainable change. Transformative practices are applied to train and experience change processes. All aspects will be integrated in the backbone of the course: a collaborative small real-life project of student’s own choice. By a praxis-oriented learning process (cyclical iterative journey of action and reflection) students learn by doing.

Learning outcomes:

After successful completion of this course students are expected to be able to:
- explain transformative leadership concepts and features;
- self-assess and develop transformative leadership competencies;
- initiate, implement and evaluate a transformative project of their own choosing.

Project work, dialogue, tutorials, peer-feedback, reflective exercises


Examination:

Student performance will be assessed by a final presentation of the project (50%) and a reflective assignment (50%). Both elements need a minimum mark of 5.5.
Active participation in all sessions is requisite to pass the course.
