This course provides a theoretical basis for multi-disciplinary analysis and improvement of supply chains and networks, focusing especially on supply chain modelling methods. It builds upon the (qualitative) theories and concepts discussed in the course Supply Chain Management (MST-24806) and the (quantitative) methods and techniques to support decision processes discussed in the course Decision Science 1 (ORL-20306). In this course, the focus is on decision support methods for operational performance, tactical operations management and strategic partnership in supply chains.
After successful completion of this course students are expected to be able to:
- apply presented algorithms and techniques to calculate an answer for a provided decision problem;
- apply supply chain concepts from logistics, marketing, management, information science and economics in a provided business case;
- analyse supply chain processes;
- use the analysis of the supply chain processes in order to construct redesigns of specific supply chain configurations;
- deduce a quantitative model for a presented decision problem in the supply chain;
- evaluate outcomes of decision support systems in order to make decisions in the supply chain;
- interpret the interactions between the various supply chain processes and the impact of these interactions on decision making.

To pass the course the written exam requires a minimum of 5.50.
